SBTi Ongoing Emissions Responsibility

Companies validating under v2 must disclose whether they intend to participate in the OER programme. Our OER Portfolio helps you cover the 1% contribution at the Engaged level, with credits from $20 per tonne.

For Category A companies · From 2035

SBTi carbon removals

From 2035, the standard sets out an increasing carbon removal requirement for Category A companies. The 2035 Reserve secures supply for delivery between 2035 and 2045 at today’s price. You pay on delivery.

The 2035 criteria will be reviewed in the next major revision of the standard.

  1. 2026

    Plan your approach

    Define your volumes and budget, review your options and prepare your first procurement brief.

  2. Q1 2027

    v2 validation opens

    Companies can submit targets under v2 or continue using v1.3.1 during the transition period. Companies validating under v2 disclose their intention to participate in OER.

  3. 2028–2030

    Secure future supply

    From 1 February 2028, all new target submissions must use v2. Plan your OER contributions and future removal volumes, and secure supply through offtake agreements.

  4. 2035

    Removal requirements begin

    The standard sets out 1% coverage of ongoing emissions for Category A companies, rising towards 100% by their net-zero year. These future criteria remain subject to review.

Secure future removals at today’s price

BloombergNEF’s Removal scenario projects prices of €133 per tonne in 2030 and €181 in 2040, compared with €78 today.

Through the 2035 Reserve, you can lock in €71 per tonne for delivery between 2035 and 2045.
